I made it rain

Today begins a predicted week of rain in Sydney. This is my doing. We finally found the adapter that will allow me to get my washing machine water out to the garden without leaking all over the laundry floor. Today will be the first load of washing done with the hose to reuse the washing machine water. This is indisputably why it will now rain for a week.

We also planned to have family photos taken in the park this afternoon - photos that have taken over a year to get organised. So the real rain started just after we arrived.

Anyone in WA like me to come and do some washing and get some photos taken in their vicinity?

Douglas Adams plagiarised

No, really, he did, and I have the proof!

Mum & David looked after the kids today while Crash & I went to the cricket, which is a pretty monumental effort - especially when the cricket was rain delayed and so finished late. We got home in the middle of bedtime and got to hear all about the day's fun. There was no picnic (as promised, due to said rain) but there was a blue goo bath and home-made (and most delicious, apparently) pizza.

Charlie explained to Crash that "David made the pizza exactly the way you don't."

It seems Douglas Adams may have got his best line ever from a four year old - it being a standard turn of phrase for them.

Anecdote OTD

I had an amusing racial norms moment this afternoon. I saw a person in the distance and did a massive double-take - I could have sworn she was buck-naked. A second look revealed she was wearing skin coloured clothes, and I thought to myself "Odd choice, to wear all skin colour."

Then I got a little closer and realised that she was Asian, she wasn't wearing her skin colour at all, really not such an odd choice. Still it made me smile to think, however briefly, that someone was wandering around Five Dock in the nicky-noo-nar, so I suggest everyone own a monotone outfit in someone's skin colour. You might just bring a smile to someone's day for a moment or two.

Courage of my convictions

It's past the solstice, and as such my position on Islamic women's dress has officially switched from winter's "Looks like a pretty cool way to avoid the oppression of women through obsession with looks and to never have to worry about your hair" to summer's "Looks like an atrocious oppression of women by making them wear excessively hot and uncomfortable clothing."

You can see that I have considered this deeply and carefully and from all viewpoints. My viewpoint represents everyone else's, right?

This is the way the weather should be

Today was just about perfect, weather-wise - mid to high 20s. I've decided that the weather should be just like today 80% of the time. It can rain on Mondays and every second Tuesday - heavy enough to make sure that the local area gets the rainfall it needs. On Sundays in summer it can be in the low to mid 30s - good beach weather, but the humidity needs to keep itself in check, below 60%.

Alright, I've done the hard work, I've worked out the optimal solution. Now who's going to implement it?
