The Dinner or the Beans - update

It's been almost a week since we began The Dinner or The Beans. So far Charlie has eaten baked beans every night for 6 nights. Tonight he ate them with pasta, which is actually a step up from BBQ sauce, which is what he normally has with pasta. He's also eaten beans with various vegetables and all sorts of stuff. Ben has mostly eaten the dinner, as has Elissa. We've only had one meltdown over dinner, compared with an average of every second night, so I'd say that's a win.

I need to keep an eye on Charlie's protein intake, but I don't think it's a big issue at the moment. So we'll play it into another week, and see how it continues to evolve.

  1. Great idea.

I've started telling my kids - "this is what's for dinner if you don't like it you can make something different for yourself, but don't ask me for help!" 9 times out of ten they will eat the dinner over a sandwich! :P I've also been introducing small pieces of various "new" vegetables to dinners, not hidden, just on their plate with the rest of the meal, about which they have been told "don't complain about the vegetables, if you don't like it don't eat it, I would like you to at least try it if you haven't had it before or haven't had it for a long time." Rhiannan generally tries hers next to the bin so she can spit it out if it's totally disgusting, Liam cuts his into miniscule pieces BUT they have both been trying new vegetables which is amazing for two kids who previously would only eat corn (and Liam only corn on the cob) or carrot!

  2. Completely off-topic...hi Ariane! I read your comment on last week's Sunday Sweets (HP) post at CakeWrecks and decided I should pop in to say hello. It's always nice to see another mom who's "perverse like that."

Having visited and done a quick scan, I think I may have to bookmark and stay for a while -- I'm also 38, married w/kids (2 for me), and studying in the social sciences (psychology). I look forward to getting to know you -- virtually, anyway.
